Wonders of Chautagne
Panorama – Chanaz (medieval village) – Lunch amongst the vineyards – Hautecombe Abbey
Description
La Chautagne is one of those regions in Savoie that you never visit by chance — and that is precisely what gives it its charm.
A trip to Savoie like no other, setting off from Annecy.
The day begins with a photo stop at the Col de la Chambotte, offering a panoramic view of Lake Bourget and the French Alps. We then head down towards Chanaz, one of the most beautiful villages in Savoie, through which the Savières Canal flows, so unspoilt — just long enough to visit the historic mill (if it’s open) and explore the ‘bee barge’, which is as unique as it is full of delicious treats.
Next, head to the Caveau de Chautagne, in the heart of the Savoyard vineyards: a tour of the wine museum, a tasting of Chautagne AOC wines and a packed lunch made with local produce, to enjoy amongst the vines.
To round off the day, a visit to the Royal Abbey of Hautecombe, overlooking Lake Bourget, offers a final moment of contemplation against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful panoramic views in Haute-Savoie and Savoie.
WARNING : The roads on this route are steep and feature some very high passes.
This excursion is therefore not recommended for people who suffer from severe vertigo.
